Robert F. Gibbs, business executive

Robert F. Gibbs, 77, the former chief financial officer and vice president of administration for the Computer Entry Systems Corp., died Feb. 13 at his home in Fredericksburg.

He had liver failure, said his wife, Susan Gibbs. He was a Potomac resident.

Mr. Gibbs retired in 2008 as a senior contract specialist with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He had worked for Computer Entry Systems for more than 15 years. Before that, he worked as a contract specialist for NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt and the Navy Department.

Robert Frederick Gibbs was a Washington native and a 1954 graduate of St. John’s College High School in the District. He was a 1958 economics graduate of Villanova University in Pennsylvania and, after Army service, received a master’s degree in business administration from George Washington University in 1967.

His memberships included the Nicholas Gibbs Historical Society, a genealogical association; Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Potomac; and the University Club in Washington.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Susan McCollum Gibbs of Fredericksburg; three children, Sandra Gibbs Brooks of Moorestown, N.J., and Kathleen Gibbs Majeski and Bob Gibbs, both of South Riding, Va.; and 10 grandchildren.
