Rosemarie E. Cauthers, 83, a retired elementary school teacher who volunteered for 45 years at Bethany Lutheran Church in Alexandria, died Sept. 19 of an aortic aneurysm at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.

The death was confirmed by her son, Richard Cauthers Jr.

Mrs. Cauthers, a resident of the Mount Vernon section of Fairfax County, taught elementary school for 10 years on Long Island, in New York state, before retiring in 1965.

Rosemarie Eichhorn was born in Queens and was a 1955 graduate of East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. She received a master’s degree in education from Pennsylvania State University in 1960.

She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an honorary education society, and was a volunteer counselor at Mount Vernon High School.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Richard Cauthers Sr., a son, Richard Cauthers Jr., both of Mount Vernon; and a sister.
