Rosemary Romero, Pentagon secretary

Rosemary Romero, 90, who did secretarial work at the Pentagon from the early 1940s until retiring in 1982, died March 9 at Emeritus at Lake Ridge, an assisted living home in Woodbridge.

The cause was chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, said her daughter Robin R. Brown.

Mrs. Romero worked for three Defense Department offices during her career: accreditation and travel; security review; and freedom of information.

She was an Alexandria resident before moving to assisted living centers in 2006.

Rosemary Sara Risor was a native of Cameron, W.Va., and a 1941 graduate of Penn Commercial business school in Washington, Pa.

Her husband, Raymond R. Romero, whom she married in 1943, died in 1984. Their daughter Janice L. Robertson died in 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Robin R. Brown of Dumfries; a granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.
