Sally Kauder, finance director, dies at 74

Sally Kauder, a retired finance director for the Association of Schools of Public Health and longtime tutor at Fairfax County public schools, died Nov. 14 at a hospice in Charlottesville. She was 74.

The cause was cancer, said a daughter, Nancy Schreiber.

Mrs. Kauder was finance director for the Association of Schools of Public Health from 1987 to 1994. Earlier, she was deputy finance director of Time-Life Books and a computer programmer at the conglomerate Teledyne.

Sally Scofield Lawrence was a native of Lawrence, Mass., and a 1961 graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Mass. She received a master’s degree in accounting from Georgetown University in 1980.

She was a math tutor at Fairfax County public schools from 1970 to 1992, a few years before she moved to Keswick, Va. She was a former Alexandria resident.

Her husband, Louis Kauder, whom she married in 1962, died in 2010. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Schreiber of Baltimore and Carol Kauder of Boulder, Colo; a brother; and two grandchildren.
