Shirley A. McOsker, school librarian, dies at 86

Shirley A. McOsker, 86, a school librarian who retired in the late 1980s from Wakefield High School in Arlington, died Dec. 31 at the Jefferson retirement community in Arlington. She had dementia and hypertensive cardiovascular disease.

A friend, Marilynn Harned, confirmed the death.

Ms. McOsker joined the Arlington public school system in 1963 and spent many years working at elementary schools. Earlier in her career, she worked with Defense Department schools in Yokosuka, Japan, and Naples, Italy.

Shirley Ann McOsker was a Detroit native and a 1948 graduate of the University of Detroit.

She lived in Arlington until moving to the Jefferson two years ago.

Her memberships included the Smithsonian Associates program, and she traveled overseas with the World Affairs Council.

She had no immediate survivors.
