Lockerbie bomber, Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, dies
In August 2009, Scottish authorities released Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer, on compassionate grounds after he served eight years of a life sentence. Megrahi, 60, is the only person convicted of a crime in connection with the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103.
