Pedestrian fatally struck in southern Maryland

A pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in southern Maryland early Thursday morning, authorities said.

Police said a 32-year-old Charles County woman was in the middle of the northbound lanes of U.S. Route 301 (Crain Highway) in White Plains when she was struck by a car about 1 a.m.

Kimberly Matalice Sitko, of White Plains, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was taken to the chief medical examiner’s office in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Police said it was raining at the time of the incident. It is unclear if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Anyone with information can call Maryland State Police at 301-392-1200.
