Pedestrian killed by car in the District

A female pedestrian was struck by a car and killed in the Disrict Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. at South Capitol and First Streets, said D.C. police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump.

Crump said a motorist was charged with driving under the influence in connection with the incident.

No names were available immediately.
