Kitten found in car engine: 6100 block, 63rd Ave., Riverdale, Oct. 1. A woman reported holding a small stray kitten that she got out of the engine compartment of her vehicle. An animal control officer picked up a 2-month-old brown tiger-striped female domestic shorthair kitten. When not claimed, the kitten was taken to a rescue group Oct. 3.

Howling dog in sewer: 300 block, Potomac Ridge Dr., Oxon Hill, Oct. 3. Animal management received a call from a man who reported hearing a dog whining and howling in a sewer drain near his home. An animal control officer removed a 6-month-old tricolored female beagle. The dog was returned to its owner that day.

Snake under couch: 12900 block, Woodmore Rd., Bowie. A woman reported seeing a snake go under the couch in the basement of her home. An officer removed a healthy black snake and returned it to the wild.

Abandoned cat in box: 5800 block, Riggs Rd., Hyattsville, Oct. 2. A store employee called animal management to report that a customer left a kitten inside a box at the store. An officer picked up a 3-year-old seal point female Balinese mix cat. When not claimed, the cat was taken to a rescue group Oct. 8.

Snake in bathroom: 4500 block, Weldon Dr., Temple Hills, Oct. 3. A woman reported seeing a snake in her bathroom. An officer removed a healthy black snake and returned it to the wild.

Dog leashed and ready for pickup: 100 block, Autumn Lake Way, Fort Washington, Oct. 3. Someone reported a stray dog running loose. An animal control officer picked up a 10-year-old white female American Eskimo. The dog was reunited with its owner Oct. 5.

Upper Marlboro low-cost animal clinic: The Prince George’s County Department of Environmental Resources’ Animal Management Division will sponsor a low-cost wellness and vaccine clinic from noon to 3 p.m. first and third Thursdays at the Spay Spot Clinic, 3750 Brown Station Rd., Upper Marlboro. Annapolis pet adoption event: The Prince George’s County SPCA/Humane Society is sponsoring cat and dog adoptions from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Petco, 2319-D Forest Dr., Annapolis.
