Saturday event to raise money for flood victims
Woodbridge Worker’s Committee will host a benefit this weekend to raise money for Prince William County residents displaced by flooding this month.
The event, to include music, games and food, will be from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the B Thrifty Shopping Center, 13412 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Woodbridge. People will be asked to make a donation to participate, said Nancy Lyall of the Woodbridge Worker’s Committee.
Lyall said that although all 70 families displaced by Tropical Storm Lee have found temporary shelter, 40 families are still in need of permanent housing. The makeshift shelter at First Mount Zion Baptist Church closed Friday after serving more than 100 flood victims last week.
Donations can be mailed to the Woodbridge Worker’s Committee, P.O. Box K, Woodbridge, Va. 22194. Lyall said that all donations are tax deductible. Anyone who wants to volunteer can call 703-986-0931.
