Target to close store in Manassas Mall on Feb. 2
Target announced last week that it will close its Manassas Mall store Feb. 2, “after careful consideration of the financial performance of this specific location,” according to a statement from the company.
The anchor store opened in 1997. Since then, Target has opened “super” stores at Sowder Village Square in Manassas and at the Gateway Center in Gainesville. A Wal-Mart Super Center opened at the mall in 2009.
City of Manassas has money in budget for a snowy winter
The City of Manassas Utilities and Public Works Department is prepared for a white winter. The city budgeted $250,000 annually for snow treatment and removal, with 16 snow-removal trucks, 22 pieces of contract equipment, 1,500 tons of road salt and 500 tons of sand.

Parent Rescource Center celebrates 20th anniversary
Prince William County schools’ Special Education Parent Resource Center will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a reception and open house Tuesday in the atrium of the Kelly Leadership Center, 14715 Bristow Rd., Manassas.
The reception will be from 5 to 9 p.m.; the open house will be all day, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The Parent Resource Center helps parents, families, teachers and caregivers of children who have special needs. The center offers free services, including parent support, information and referral to community resources; problem-solving strategies; a lending library; workshops; seminars; and a parent newsletter.
