Hudson sworn in as third police chief in Pr. William

Stephan M. Hudson was sworn in Friday afternoon as Prince William County’s third police chief.

Hudson succeeds Charlie T. Deane, who served as chief for 24 years before retiring last year.

Last week, Hudson also announced the promotion of Steven J. Thompson to major. Thompson, who joined the department in 1996, will be the assistant police chief for the Criminal Investigations Division.

Course for parents of children with disabilities

The Prince William County Special Education Parent Resource Center will host a free seven-week course, National Alliance on Mental Illness Basics, beginning April 3.

The classes will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays through May 15 at the Edward L. Kelly Leadership Center.

The workshop is for parents and caregivers of children and teenagers with major depression, bipolar disorder, oppositional disorder, conduct disorder, anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, substance abuse disorders or co-morbid disorders. The child does not have to have an official diagnosis.
