A 32-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday night near his home in Southeast Washington, according to D.C. Police.

The victim was identified as Rahmaan Jamal Ward of Southeast. Police said he was pronounced dead at an area hospital about one hour after the 10:15 p.m. shooting

Officer Araz Alali, a D.C police spokesman, said patrolmen were called to Stanton Road and Mississippi Avenue for reports of gunshots. He said officers found the victim lying in the street about a block away in the 3500 block of 18th St. SE. Alali said Ward had been shot several times in the chest.
