Recent storm leaves 21 structures in Cheverly, Bladensburg areas uninhabitable

By ,

Prince George’s County officials have listed 21 structures in the Cheverly and Bladensburg areas as unsafe and uninhabitable as they try to determine whether the recent storm damage meets federal aid requirements.

The damage, which displaced many families, appears to be some of the most severe in years to result from wind in the Washington area. The National Weather Service estimated downburst wind speeds of 90 to 100 mph.

Officials said that monetary donations are being accepted at the county social services department at 805 Brightseat Rd., Landover, Md. 20785 and that nonperishable food and boxes of folded new or near-new clothing are being accepted at 425 Brightseat Road from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Friday.
