The worker digging a hole for a water line who died Tuesday morning in Fairfax County after falling into a 15-foot-deep hole has been identified by police.

Juan Francisco Cerna Alfaro, 36, of Falls Church, was working at a home under renovation on Kinglet Court in McLean, authorities said. After he fell into the trench, the hole collapsed around him, trapping him.

Fire officials recovered the victim just after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Police did not give details about Alfaro’s employer. The investigation is ongoing.
