Robber targeting Metro riders at Suitland parking garage

October 13, 2011

Metro Transit Police are investigating a series of armed robberies that occurred over the past two weeks in the parking garage at Suitland station and say they have increased patrols.

In the incidents, a man with a black handgun approached riders, demanded valuables and fled on foot, Metro said.

No one was reported injured in the robberies, authorities said. The first robbery occurred Sept. 27 and the most recent was Thursday at 8:35 a.m. The other robberies occurred evenings between 5:15 and 8:30.

Metro described the suspect as a 5-foot-6 African American male with a dark complexion and black dreadlocks. He was wearing a baseball cap during the robberies. Metro said he is estimated to be 20 to 25 years old.

Transit police said they have increased patrols and are working with local law enforcement. Prince George’s County police conduct additional patrols of parking lots, stations and bus stops at Suitland and other stations in the county, according to Metro.

Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Transit Police at 202-962-2121.
