Stolen pick up truck crashes into D.C. police cruiser and another vehicle

D.C. police arrested three people Monday after a pursuit of a stolen vehicle that crashed into a police car and another vehicle as it sped through Northeast Washington.

The incident began when a police commander in an unmarked cruiser spotted a burgundy-colored Dodge Ram pickup truck driving erratically on I-295 near Pennsylvania Avenue about 3:45 p.m., police said. The truck had been reported as stolen and police said several people were inside.

The police official followed the truck onto Minnesota Avenue and then to Benning Road, where the truck was stopped.

As the commander walked toward the truck, the driver backed into the police cruiser and then sped off. The truck later struck a vehicle near Benning Road and East Capitol Street.

Police pursued the vehicle until it crashed into a light pole in the 1400 block of Morse Street NE about 4 p.m. Three people ran from the stolen truck but they were stopped after a short foot chase, police said.

Police arrested a man, woman and a teenaged male, but officials did not immediately identify them.

No injuries were reported.
