Herndon store sells Mega Millions lottery ticket worth $3 million

A store in Herndon sold a $3 million winning lottery ticket on Friday.

The ticket, sold at Elden Market and Deli, matched the first five numbers in the Virginia Lottery’s Mega Millions jackpot — 7, 20, 40, 54, 69. If the ticket had matched the final number, called the Mega Ball, the buyer would have won the jackpot, which is now about $400 million, according to a Virginia Lottery news release.

Instead, the five matching numbers are worth $1 million. Since the buyer of the ticket spent $1 more for a “Megaplier” option, the reward is tripled.

The winner has 180 days to claim the prize.
