Teenager hospitalized after near drowning

A 15-year-old boy was hospitalized Wednesday evening after he nearly drowned in private pool in Colesville, Montgomery County authorities said.

Police and fire department crews responded to the 14600 block of Old Lyme Drive for the report of a possible drowning about 6 p.m., said Capt. Jim Daly, a police spokesman. The incident occurred during a “a gathering of people” at the pool.

Someone noticed the teen was in distress and called 911. When authorities arrived there, the teen had already been pulled out of the water, Daly said.

He was taken to a hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, said Assistant Chief Scott Graham, a fire department spokesman. The youth, who was not identified, remained in the hospital for treatment Wednesday night, but officials could not provide his condition.
