Death penalty: Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is expected to announce a push to repeal the death penalty in the state.

D.C. school closures: A new report says the proposal to close 20 schools is unlikely to save much money in 2013-2014.

Gay judge: Virginia’s General Assembly is expected to approve an openly gay judge for the bench, a reversal of its stand on one of last year’s most contentious issues.

Washington Capitals: Single-game tickets go on sale at 2 p.m. as the team gears up to open the season this weekend.
