A District man has been charged in the Feb. 24 shooting death of a 20-year-old man during what police say was a gang-related fight outside a College Park hotel.
Edwin Morales, 20, of the 3300 block of Monterey Lane in Southeast, was arrested Friday on charges of first- and second-degree murder in the shooting of David Esequel Avelar, according to Prince George’s County police. Avelar’s address was not released.

Police said Morales and Avelar had attended separate parties at a hotel in the 9100 block of Baltimore Avenue when a fight broke out between their two gangs in the parking lot around 4 a.m.
Morales shot Avelar during the fight, police said.
