Man who was shot by off-duty officer dies

A 28-year-old man who was shot while trying to rob an off-duty D.C. police officer died this week in the D.C. jail infirmary while awaiting trial, police said.

Police said an autopsy is to determine whether Marcus Young of Southeast died of complications from his wound.

They said he had a hand under his sweatshirt and acted as if he had a gun Oct. 8 when he confronted the officer who was in civilian clothes. As he approached court documents say, he said, “Don’t make me pull this out on you.” Young was charged with assault to commit armed robbery. Police have not said whether he had a gun.

New trial sought in Levy killing

Attorneys for Ingmar Guandique, who was convicted of the 2001 killing of former intern Chandra Levy, filed a motion in D.C. Superior Court asking a new trial.

Lawyers with the D.C. Public Defender Service argue that in Guandique’s 2010 trial, prosecutors withheld information that a key witness lied about cooperation in other cases in exchange for benefits, or at least should have known about the background of the witness, Armando Morales..

Morales testified that Guandique admitted to him in prison that he killed Levy. Morales also testified that he had not cooperated with prosecutors in other cases. Two years after Guandique’s sentencing defense attorneys learned that Morales may have cooperated in other cases.
