Two kayakers fall into Potomac; woman dies

A 24-year-old woman died Thursday afternoon during a kayaking accident on the Potomac River near Great Falls, Montgomery County authorities said.

Rescuers searched the river after being called for the report of two kayakers who had fallen into the river about 4:30 p.m., said Asst. Chief Scott Graham, a fire department spokesman. Authorities rescued one kayaker, a man, after they arrived at the scene, but could not find the woman, who was last seen wearing a black life jacket, Graham said.
