But D.C. police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said there is “no reason to believe” the incidents are related. She said that the shooting victims from the burglary were not victims of the March 11 drive-by.
Police said Tuesday’s shootings occurred about 1:30 a.m. Authorities did not indicate how the two assailants got into the building, which has one entrance. Residents have complained that security makes it difficult for people to have visitors.
Police said the men, one armed with a gun, got inside the apartment through an unlocked door. One of the attackers grabbed the male occupant by the neck, police said, and the female occupant intervened, police said.
Police said the woman was shot in the hand and the man was shot in the chest and arm. The injuries were described as non-life threatening and both victims were being treated at an area hospital. Police said the attackers escaped without taking anything. The motive is classified as a burglary, but police said they do not know if the attack was random or the couple was targeted.
The mass shooting last week still causes concern for residents of Tyler House and its neighbors a few blocks away in NoMa., a gentrifying neighborhood dubbed north of Massachusetts Avenue.
On Friday, police arrested one suspect in the shootings and were still searching for a second man described as a person of interest. No motive for the shootings has been given.
