Two suspects arrested in robbery of bikes on Capitol Hill

June 1, 2013

Two bikes were taken from two people Friday evening in two robberies on the edge of Capitol Hill. But it appeared that at least two of the robbers did not get far.

The first incident occurred about 5 p.m., long before sunset, in the 1400 block of C Street NE. Police said three robbers, described as teenagers in white shirts and khaki pants, approached the victim from behind, punched and kicked him, and fled with his bike and cellphone.

Officers looking for the assailants soon learned of the second robbery, in the 1500 block of C Street NE, in which three people also took a bike and a phone.

As officers talked with the victim in the second robbery, police said, two people caught their eye. One was riding the first victim’s bicycle, the other following him on foot.

Police said they made two arrests and found the second victim’s bike in an alley. They said the third robber got away — on public transportation.
