Youths younger than 15 would be prohibited from using tanning booths under a bill that passed the Senate on Friday.
Sponsored by Sen. George Barker (D-Fairfax), the bill passed 34 to 5 with no debate. The opponents were all Republicans.

The legislation, which is intended to help prevent skin cancer, also prohibits teens 15 to 17 years old from using tanning facilities without written parental consent. Under current law, teenagers younger than 15 are allowed to tan with parental consent.
The bill now moves to the House.
