A man and a woman were killed in the District on Saturday in two separate shootings as a week notable for outbursts of violence drew to a close.
In the first of Saturday’s slayings, Quentin Lavar White, 28, of Southeast Washington was found about 12:45 a.m. in the 3500 block of East Capitol Street SE, where a shooting had been reported, D.C. police said.
He was taken to a hospital with an apparent gunshot wound and died there, the police said.
A little more than an hour after White was found, a shooting was reported in the 1300 block of Stevens Road SE. Police said they found Malika Stover, 35, with at least two bullet wounds. She died at a hospital.
The killings brought the number of homicides in the city last week to at least four.
Both of the homicides reported earlier last week occurred Wednesday night. In the first, Dawon Markham, 42, was shot in the 6200 block of 62nd Street NE. Later that night, Ernest Hart, 17, of Southeast was stabbed in the 4600 block of Hillside Road SE, police said.
An arrest has been reported in Hart’s killing.
In another attack Wednesday night, people at a high school graduation barbecue in the 1200 block of 42nd Street NE became the targets of gunfire. Four people were wounded, police said.
On Thursday night, four separate stabbings were reported in the District. None were fatal.
The occurrence of four killings in the District in one week is uncommon and well above the overall homicide rate here this year, where homicides had occurred at a rate of fewer than two a week.
