Wheels that are decidedly low-tech and environmentally friendly
Nick Turner of Leesburg loves cars but worries about the pollution they produce. So he brought together disparate parts to create a pedal car with a battery boost. People who see it love it, and he is pondering all kinds of improvements.

Nick Turner, a mechanical-engineering major at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, takes what he calls the Tuhart B-2 for a drive in Leesburg. Turner, 21, designed and built the car, which weighs 250 pounds. He plans to add a shell and safety features and perhaps turn it into a marketable vehicle.
