Three men, at least one of them armed with a gun, carjacked a Mercedes SUV from a woman at a Georgetown gas station early Friday, then crashed the vehicle during a police pursuit into Montgomery County, according to authorities.

D.C. police said they arrested one suspect and were searching for two additional men who got away after the accident on the Clara Barton Parkway. The suspect’s identity was not immediately released pending the filing of formal charges.

Officer Tisha Gant, a D.C. police spokeswoman, said the incident occurred about 1:10 a.m. in the 3600 block of M St. NW, where there is an Exxon gas station.

Gant said the men approached the woman and threatened her with a handgun. They took money and the woman’s 2006 burgundy Mercedes ML350, Gant said.

District police said only that the vehicle, which has Virginia license plates, was recovered on the highway in Maryland and that one person had been arrested. Montgomery County police confirmed that they responded to a crash that was the result of a police chase.

It could not immediately be determined where on the Clara Barton Parkway the chase ended.
