Woman crashes car into Arlington Pizza Hut
By Allison Klein,
An 86-year-old woman lost control of her car and crashed through the plate-glass front window of an Arlington Pizza Hut at lunch time Thursday, police said. The car came to a rest at the front counter.
The woman was taken to an area hospital as a precaution, said Arlington police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck. Nobody else was injured.
It happened at 12:50 p.m., when the woman’s silver 2010 Honda Fit jumped a curb and hit the restaurant in the 3300 block of Lee Highway, Sternbeck said.
No customers were in the restaurant, and all of the employees were in the back, away from the front counter, he said.
The woman, who apparently confused the brake and gas pedals, was extricated from the car by rescue workers, Sternbeck said. He said she was shaken up from the incident but did not have any immediate apparent injuries.
The restaurant was declared structurally safe, and will be boarded up until the window can be repaired.
In December, a car crashed through a McDonald’s restaurant in Adam’s Morgan, injuring two people.
