Woman killed in car accident in Northeast Washington

A woman was killed Tuesday morning when the car she was driving went off the road and hit a tree in Northeast Washington, D.C. police said.

The accident occurred about 8 a.m. at 12th and Varnum streets, near the Michigan Park neighborhood. Few details were immediately available, but police said the woman was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.
