Countdown to a Georgia execution

Protesters held out hope as supporters filed a last-minute appeal to the Supreme Court to halt the execution of death row inmate Troy Davis, who was scheduled to die Sept. 21 for the 1989 slaying of an off-duty Savannah, Ga., police officer. The stay was denied and Davis was executed at 11:08 p.m.
