From her role as Tracy Turnblad in the movie “Hairspray” to talk-show host to childbirth-choices activist, Ricki Lake has had a unique career path. In Parenting magazine, Lake talks about her own birth experiences, about how her 2008 documentary “The Business of Being Born” changed her life, and about the follow-up DVD series, “More Business of Being Born,” due in October. The first film asks, according to the synopsis, “Should most births be viewed as a natural life process, or should every delivery be treated as a potentially catastrophic medical emergency?” The new DVDs will give more detailed information about birthing options and share celebrity birth stories from Molly Ringwald, Alanis Morrisette and Cindy Crawford.

Daily Challenge (MeYou Health)
“I already ate an unhealthy lunch; I might as well eat junk for dinner, too.” “A 20-minute jog won’t make any difference. I’ll stay home.” For people who tend to have an all-or-nothing attitude toward health, signing up for an e-mail called the “Daily Challenge” at www.meyouhealth.com might be just the ticket. Each day at 7 a.m., subscribers to the free service will receive an e-mail with a small daily action to accomplish within 24 hours, such as doing a set of lunges, eating a red vegetable or calling a friend. It’s a “small, achievable step towards healthy living each day,” according to MeYou Health, a Boston company that creates mobile and Web products that promote wellness.
