Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has moved to impose a 20-year ban on uranium mining on public land surrounding the national landmark.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced on Jan. 9 a plan to ban uranium mining for 20 years in the area surrounding the Grand Canyon. It's a move that will likely draw cheers from conservationists and criticism from the mining industry and some congressional Republicans.
