Since 1976, the U.S. Ansmet program has collected nearly 20,000 meteorites from Antarctica. The 35th expedition — a joint venture of the National Science Foundation, NASA and the Smithsonian Institution — launches this week. The collected space rocks provide insights into the formation of the sun, the Earth, the moon and the rest of the solar system. Read related article.
