Muddy waters

When deluges produced by Tropical Storm Lee forced officials to open the gates of the Conowingo Hydroelectric Dam, 4 million tons of built-up sediment gushed into the Chesapeake Bay, coloring the upper half brown, as seen in this satellite image taken Sept. 12. Read related article.
