The first tribal national park
The Oglala Sioux are hoping to convert the southern half of Badlands National Park, which sits on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, into the first-ever tribal national park. They will focus on restoring the 133,300-acre area by reintroducing bison and protecting native species such as prairie dogs, swift foxes and bighorn sheep. Read related article.
