Joplin rebuilds, with a boost from the Mideast

The United Arab Emirates has donated $5 million for a neonatal intensive care unit and $1 million for high school laptops in the tornado-devastated Missouri town.

Yousef al Otaiba, the United Arab Emirates’ ambassador to the United States, said his nation didn’t want simply to rebuild what was destroyed by the tornado. “We asked ourselves, 'What can we bring to Joplin that probably won’t be forthcoming from anywhere else?' ' Otaiba said. 'We wanted to bring them something they didn’t have before.'
