U.S. military dogs in action

A military canine is reported to have accompanied the Navy SEALs on the raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan, that killed Osama bin Laden. Like the other members of the team that carried out the raid, the dog’s identity remains a mystery, but here’s a look at some of the things military dogs do.

Pronto, a Special Operations Forces multipurpose canine, successfully jumped out of a CH-47 Chinook helicopter during Emerald Warrior training exercise at Hurlburt Field, Fla. It was the first time a dog had jumped with a team, allowing members to use Pronto in real-world situations. Emerald Warrior is a U.S. Special Operations Command-sponsored, multiservice exercise designed to use lessons learned in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars to train forces.
