This will be a roundup-free open thread post, because as you read this, I will be on a plane on my way to Venice and Amsterdam. So our topic is this: What do I absolutely have to do, see, or eat, besides the abundantly obvious, in both cities? I promise to report back on my return to the office on May 12.

But never fear! I will still have you covered on “Game of Thrones” this weekend, because I am an utter failure at taking vacations, and I could never leaving you hanging like that. And for the the rest of the week, you will be covered by a guest-blogger, the terrific Stacia L. Brown.

I initially met Stacia through the great group blog PostBourgie, and as I have read her writing on everything from single motherhood to Lupita Nyong’o’s future, I have envied publications like the Atlantic and Slate for getting to publish her. I am thrilled and grateful to have her here. Please give Stacia a warm, Washington Post welcome, and be excellent to her and each other while I am gone.
