Open thread: Capitals at Canadiens

MONTREAL — Alex Ovechkin returns to the Capitals’ lineup tonight after sitting out the past two games with a groin injury. It’s an addition that can’t come soon enough for Washington, seeing as the team has recorded only eight goals during it’s seven game losing streak.

While Ovechkin is back, Mikhail Grabovski is out after suffering a left leg injury in New Jersey Friday night. Given the uncertainty surrounding the status of both forwards earlier in the day, the Capitals recalled Casey Wellman from Hershey to add another center to the mix. Wellman will play his second game of the season with the Capitals, centering the fourth line between Eric Fehr and Joel Ward. In conjunction with that recall, Washington reassigned defenseman Nate Schmidt to the Bears.

Braden Holtby (13-12-2, 3.00 goals-against average, .911 save percentage) gets the start for the Capitals and he’ll be opposed by the Canadiens’ Carey Price (22-15-4, 2.44 goals-against average, .930 save percentage).
