Open thread: Capitals vs. Red Wings

The Capitals will be without both Mike Green and Brooks Laich Sunday afternoon as they host Detroit in the second half of this home-and-home series.

This is Green’s second straight absence after he suffered a concussion when checked by Columbus forward Boone Jenner on Jan. 30. Laich will sit out after he was shut down by the coaching staff in the third period at Detroit on Jan. 31 after his groin tightened up again. That makes for some interesting line shuffling, so be sure to check out the lineup for this afternoon’s game below.

Michal Neuvirth (3-5-2, 2.79 goals-against average, .917 save percentage) gets the nod against the Red Wings, who will counter with Jimmy Howard (10-12-8, 2.65 goals-against average, .916 save percentage). Detroit enters this contest having been shut out in each of its last three road games, something that the Red Wings haven’t done since 1928. They’ve never been blanked in four consecutive road games.

Faceoff: 12:30 p.m., Verizon Center
TV: NBC | Radio: 106.7 FM

Here is the Capitals’ lineup.

Goal:  Neuvirth, Holtby.
Scratches: Mikhail Grabovski (left ankle), Mike Green (concussion) and Brooks Laich (groin).
LTIR: Jack Hillen (fractured tibial plateau).
