AS VETERAN AFFAIRS Secretary Eric Shinseki pleads to save his job, if not his current department, the calls for his swift ouster are reaching a fever pitch. Oh, we’re not talking about from lawmakers, lieutenants or the White House.
No, we refer to the pitchforks and torches being hoisted by some of the nation’s cartoonists.
Watch out for those sharpened nibs, Mr. Secretary. They’ve been known to sting something fierce.
The controversy that has Shinseki locked into the town square’s stocks and dodging criticism like flung tomatoes involves, of course, the horrendous wait times for veterans’ medical appointments and care, as well as the falsification of wait-list records throughout the system, as discovered by an inspector general’s independent review.
By late Thursday, The Post’s Greg Jaffe and Ed O’Keefe report, “one-fifth of the Senate Democratic caucus had called for Shinseki’s ouster and at least two dozen House Democrats … were demanding that he be replaced.”
