RGIII’s ESPN the Magazine cover

I mentioned on Monday that ESPN the Magazine’s 15th anniversary double issue, which hits newsstands on Friday, includes a 5,000-word piece on Robert Griffin III by Pulitzer Prize winner J.R. Moehringer. I also mentioned that the special issue has four different national covers, one featuring Bryce Harper and another featuring RGIII. Well, here is that second cover.

The RGIII story and an accompanying video are scheduled to be available online early next week. And as I mentioned, I asked the Mag’s editor-in-chief, Chad Millman, why they went back to the RGIII well so quickly, after also writing about him in their D.C. issue.

“He’s going to be one of those guys you are going to want to know what he does, no matter what he’s doing,” Millman said. “If, God forbid, he ends up being out of football in five years, he’s still going to do something special, and that’s what we tried to capture. Here’s a guy who’s going to transcend the world of sports; it’s really a launching pad for anything else he’s going to do. And in the meantime, let’s enjoy him, because he’s as dynamic and thoughtful and interesting an athlete as we’ve had in a long time.”

Also, here again is the Bryce Harper cover.
