You will not find a better photo to illustrate the idea that Davey Johnson is leaving baseball for the golf course than this one, taken before Sunday’s season finale in Arizona.

This image will join Davey’s dugout push-ups in April as a closing book-end to his 2013 season.

Also, Johnson has now mentioned possibly managing in Australia at least twice in recent days. Here’s from Kilgore’s Sunday wrap-up:

“The day’s emotion pulled on everyone, but Johnson tried not to allow it to drag on him. He talked about managing in the Florida Collegiate Summer League next summer and a trip to Bora Bora and coaching baseball in Australia. Johnson does not see the end. He sees what will come next. “It’s not like I’m dying tomorrow,” Johnson said. “Good lord. There’ll be something I can do.”

As for that previous Australia thing, “I already have a job opportunity,” Johnson told Ray Knight on MASN last week. “The Florida Collegiate Summer League said they’d like me to come back and manage.”

“Is there any scenario that you would manage again?” Knight asked.

“It’s a possibility,” Johnson said. “I mean, I never say never to anything. This is my last year here in Washington. But you know, when I got fired in L.A., I was burned out. And I went home. Somebody called me up and they wanted me to manage in the Netherlands. I went over there and managed. If something comes up, somebody gets sick somewhere and they need me….I’m kind of promoting Australia. I haven’t been to Australia.”

Do it, Australia.
