The re-sodding of FedEx Field

The Redskins, as promised, began the process of re-sodding their field on Sunday night. This was exciting news, as it meant the team could possibly avoid the yucky pock-marked green-painted embarrassment that plagued the end of the 2012 season, especially with a prime-time game against the 49ers looming.

This was also exciting news, as it meant every media member with access to a photographic device would capture an image of the sod-removal process for posterity.

Keep in mind, I have the utmost respect and admiration for my brothers and sisters in the Redskins media corps, who troop from home to Ashburn to Landover to farflung corners of the country while I sit at home and take pictures of my television. So I post this collection of sod photos not to ever-so-gently mock them; I do it because their photography skills deserve to be savored and appreciated and loved.

And also because it’s fun to look at big machines on football fields.
