You won’t believe what’s in Maryland’s Big Ten ice cream

In April, we learned that Maryland would be creating a special ice cream to celebrate its move to the Big Ten. We tried to guess what might be in said ice cream. We failed.

Because it turns out that everything is in Maryland’s B1G ice cream. Live from College Park, here is the description:

“A rich and creamy bourbon vanilla bean ice cream swirled with a raspberry and cream de cassis Melba sauce, accented with pieces of three historic uniquely Maryland Cakes: Kossuth cake, Smith Island cake and Lord Baltimore cake, splashed with a hint of Triple Sec.”

I mean, I’ve written entire blog items that weren’t as long as that description of B1G ice cream.

Kossuth Cakes involve “rich chocolaty glaze and…fresh whipped cream.” Lord Baltimore Cakes involve macaroons and other nuts and often cherries. Smith Island Cake is “eight to ten layers of yellow cake with chocolate frosting between each layer and slathered over the whole.” It is the official state dessert of Maryland. At least, it was before B1G ice cream was created.
