For the second straight year, Tiger Woods will begin his 2013 season at the Abu Dhabi Championship.
“I really enjoyed my time in Abu Dhabi and I wanted to return, particularly as I played well and came so close last year,” Woods said in a statement (via USA Today). “I’d love nothing more than to win in January and start the season in the best possible way.”
Woods was tied for the lead going into the final round of last year’s tournament but finished tied for third, two shots behind Robert Rock and one behind McIlroy. Woods skipped the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, a course where he has won seven times, to play Abu Dhabi. This year, the Farmers Insurance Open is the year after Abu Dhabi.
Last week, fresh off a disappointing performance at the Ryder Cup, Woods said he would consider joining the European Tour depending on changing criteria for the 13 events needed to earn membership.
