After watching “Free Willy,” 6-year-old Jessica Rekos became infatuated with whales, researching her new favorite creature for projects from her bedroom. Vacations to Cape Cod served as observing expeditions for the curious child.

On Dec. 14, 2012, Jessica was among the victims killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. In her honor, the Team Jessica Rekos memorial group is raising money for whale education and conservation through an NCAA tournament bracket challenge.

Entries cost $10 for one and $25 for three, no limits. Instructions to enter are here. As of Noon on Wednesday, the pool had around 350 entries. The winner receives a trip for two to a Duke-North Carolina game at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Airfare, rental car and hotel are included. But really, that’s all secondary to honoring Jessica.
