It’s summer league, so instead of Spike Lee, the Knicks get Flavor Flav

In Thursday’s NBA action, the Knicks won, 80-73. Of course, that would be Thursday’s NBA summer league action in Las Vegas, which is only a vague facsimile of the real thing.

For example, the Knicks’ leading scorers were Tim Hardaway Jr. and Shane Larkin. No, I don’t see the name “Carmelo Anthony” in there, either. They defeated the D-League Select team, which isn’t a squad one usually faces in the NBA. Also, the Knicks wore fairly generic uniforms, with just the color schemes tying them to their big-league counterparts.

Oh, and at Madison Square Garden, the real Knicks are cheered on by Spike Lee. Apparently, the summer-league Knicks’ celebrity fan is Flavor Flav. Yeah, boyyyyyyyy!

Flav had previously been shown on the game telecast sitting in the stands, seemingly alone. Well, he was accompanied by his trademark clock. Also, he could be seen wearing a hat with a marijuana leaf symbol and a shirt that touted “NOHO: The Hangover Defense.” Plus, he was holding a lot of keys. It all added up to a field day for Twitter:

Flavor Flav is, of course, native New Yorker, so it makes sense that he might show up at a Knicks game, even thousands of miles from the Big Apple. Or maybe it was just another random encounter as Flav wandered around town.

This former editor and part-time writer at The Post is now happy to prove that if you combine 'blowhard' and 'blaggard,' you get 'blogger.' He previously had used 'Desmond Bieler' as his byline, but feels that shortening the first name to 'Des' nicely conveys his ever-decreasing gravitas. He also covers Fantasy Football.
